Commodore 64

Something sensational happened last Saturday night. I was home enjoying the post-ride rest of the week. I had a call from a younger ex-colleague, asking to accompany a beer. Not rejectable. Then, the younger ones went for a coffee, I departed to use the opportunity to see some live music. I went to the venue called Small pub which deserves the title. I sat and instantly the band started to play. I thought I would have fun with 80's pop, apparently I couldn't. The second song was the most popular from Belinda Carlisle which I always found very childish. Older funk based pop songs followed like "Part time lover". I have never been a fan of this music, only childhood memories. The sexist ugly song selection included "Daddy Cool" and even Samantha Fox's "Touch me". Totally unbearable. I could hardly keep my stomach in a single piece. Nobody seemed to be having entertained to me, eh that was a relief.

But in the end the worst possibility took place. They started to play "Beat It" which I recently remembered the story behind it and enjoyed 20 sec Van Halen guitar solo. When the time came to play the solo; suddenly the funky, sexist disco band turned into a fascist heavy metal group started to play the riff from Iron Maiden's "The Trooper". Come on!!!! The Trooper is a song about Crimean War from the English perspective. I especially hate the song since it heroizes death on battlefield. I felt a personal threat hearing this in a small pub in Eskişehir. It took me 2 minutes to leave.

Those guys in the band looked quite talented musicians to me. I hope they come to their senses selecting a better playlist soon. Otherwise I' m sure they will be deleted from this small Turkish town music scene. Hey guys! Maybe you don't know 80's well, Atari sucked big time. If you decide to change, try Commodore 64 :)
